What to Expect

Our philosophy is fairly simple and we take a very “hands on” approach……
if a joint or tissue is not doing what it is supposed to, between us, let’s try to fix it. Yes, we do have ultrasound, laser and other fancy gadgets but if a joint is stiff or a muscle is tight, it needs to be pushed, pulled or stretched. No amount of “mystical magic waves” will do that!

By returning things to normal, we can reduce pain and improve levels of activity. Additionally, we ought to consider how you got yourself into this mess in the first place; as such, we will try to address the issues which may have prompted the problem as a means of reducing the risk of any future relapse. This involves focussing on self-help measures such as stretches and strengthening exercises for key areas, along with postural education and advice on training programmes for the more athletically minded individuals.

As an example, those patients with spinal complaints, once their pain is easing, will be assessed to see how well their “core stability” muscles (the muscles of the trunk) are working to maintain optimal spinal alignment and flexibility. Any imbalances will be treated with a programme of exercises, which are tailored to suit the individual.

In conclusion, as much as we enjoy good and friendly relationships with our patients, the success of our treatments will not depend on you coming to see us every few months for the rest of your days for “fine tuning”! If you do come back, we hope it will be for a different problem, prompted by a previous good experience.
